Custom Fields

This topic will cover everything related to the Custom fields. For effective email marketing custom fields play a very important part. This can help you not only to personalize the content of your newsletter but also can help you gather vital and important information about your subscribers.

There are two types of custom fields offered by MailsDaily * Local custom fields [added specifically for a particular list] * Global custom fields [added globally and available for all the lists]

Please be aware that global custom fields once added can not be changed to local custom fields.

To add a new custom field ,go to the “Lists” tab
Select the mailing list you wish to add new custom fields to.

Click on the “Custom Fields” link as highlighted in the above screen from the List Options
Click on the “Create new custom field” tab.

Every custom field has a unique numeric id associated to it – this numeric ID will help you at the time when you want to personalize your email newsletter content.

Creating Custom Fields

Name
Name of your custom field

Type
You can select the field type you want to use – this will determine the html form element type and can also limit the data that can be saved under this field.

You can use the following types of the fields.

Single Line
Paragraph text
Multiple Choice
Drop Down
Checkboxes
Date Field
Time Field
Hidden Field

Default Value
In some of the field types you can define the default value for the field so that it will be displayed to the user.

Validation
Validation can help you validate the input and ensure that the user is not entering or populating the random value.

You can either disable the validation for the field or choose from 6 validation methods built into MailsDaily.

Numbers
Letters
Numbers and Letters
Email Address
URL
Custom

Visibility
You can also define the field visibility – whether the field is available for the subscribers under thier subscriber area or it is only visible by the List Admin.

Make this field mandatory
Use this option to make the field mandatory to fill in.

Force unique value entry
Tick this option to force a unique value entry, unless the field is populated by the end user with a unique value it will not allow the user to go further.

Make this custom field available across all your lists
Using this option you can make the custom field globally available for all your lists.

Please be aware that global custom fields once added can not be changed to local custom fields.

Surveys

A Survey can be integrated with your website, microsite or landing pages. To create new Survey forms for your mailing list(s) follow the steps below.

Go to Subscribers
This will show you the existing lists available within your system.
Create new list with the List Type is Survey.
This will bring up the list overview page
Create questions & answers for survey by using custom fields functions
Click on the “Create Survey Form” button found on the upper right corner of the page.
This will take you to a wizard where you can create the Survey forms

Layout & Preview
This will show you how your form will look like – there are three built in visual styles which can be used to style your form layout.

Options
The options tab will allow you to select more mailing lists so that when a subscriber subscribes using this form they will also be subscribed to selected lists under options.

You can also choose to include custom fields associated with the mailing list you are generating the survey form.

HTML Code
This tab will provide you the generated HTML code which can be easily integrated within your website. Just copy and paste the html code within your website and customize the html code as you want but you must not change the action of the form or the name of form elements.

Survey form will be generate from the link or from HTML code as below:

Survey Reports:

Survey reports is automatic generated for multi-answers- questions. To view the survey reports, user can go to Report tab and choose Surveys categories.

Then, click on the Survey that you would like to see the reports:

Summary reports for multi-answer-questions is generated on the screens and you can also click to export CSV button to get csv file of summary reports.

For details report of survey, User click on the link “View/Search Subscribers” on the left. Then, Click to show all custom fields check box and Export Results as below:

Webform

Webform can be integrated with your website, microsite or landing pages. To create new webform for your mailing list(s) follow the steps below.

Go to Subscribers
This will show you the existing lists available within your system.
Create a new list.
This will bring up the list overview page
Click on the “Create Subscription/Unsubscription Form” button found on the upper right corner of the page.
This will take you to a wizard where you can create the Web forms

Integrating new list with your website

In the last chapter we saw how to create a new mailing list, this chapter will explain you how to integrate this newly created mailing list within your website. Once you integrate your list within your website your website visitors can subscribe to it by filling up the subscription form and submitting their email address.

Click on the “Unsubscription Form” tab and you should see the html code, copy and paste the html code within your website and customize the html code as you want but you must not change the action of the form or the name of form elements.

Auto Responders

Auto-responders play a very important role in Email Marketing. You can send emails or updates to your subscribers automatically without the need to login to the MailsDaily account. You can use autoresponders to send a welcome email or a happy birthday email. You could even send an email when someone clicks on a particular link, forwards your newsletter.

To create and manage the auto responders go to “Subscibers”
Select the mailing list you wish to create auto-responder for
Now click on the “Auto Responder” link from the List Options menu.
You should see the auto responder browser – which will list any existing auto responders within the system and also allow you to create new ones.
Click on the “Create new auto-responder” link

This will take you to the auto responder creation screen – where you will need to define the auto responder name, trigger event and the schedule to send the auto responder. You will also have to create your auto responder email which will be sent to the subscriber.

Auto Responder Fields Explained

Name
Name of your auto responder

Triggers on
Select the event that will trigger the auto responder.There are five triggers available

Subscription
If this trigger is selected then when the subscription trigger happens [a subscriber subscribes] that time the Auto Responder will be sent. This means the auto responder will be sent to the new subscribers for that particular list.

Link click
If this trigger is selected then in the event when the existing subscriber of the list clicks a link within the email campaign body – then an auto responder will be sent to the subscriber.

Campaign Open
This trigger will fire an auto responder when the subscriber opens the campaign email.

Forward to friend
This trigger will fire an auto responder when the subscriber clicks on the forward to friend link and actually forwards the email to someone

Date Information
This type of trigger will only work based on the date fields, such as subscription date, birth date etc.

Send
You can set the auto responder to be sent based on a specified time frame.

Immediately
Seconds later
Minutes later
Hours later
Days later
Weeks later
Months later

Click “Create Auto Responder & Edit Email” button to proceed to the next screen.
On the next screen you will have to select one of the methods for creating the auto responder email content.

Method to create auto responder email

From Scratch
This method will allow you to use your own custom html code for creating auto responder email

Template Gallery
MailsDaily has several pre-configured templates available within the system – you can select the pre-built template to be used as your auto responder.

You can select this method if you wish to use the built in templates for your auto responders.

Fetch URL
This can be used to fetch the auto responder content from a third party website or your own website.

For this user guide we are going to use the first method “From scratch”.

Step 1 Sender Information [Settings]

Name
Your subscribers will see this name when they receive your auto responder.

Email Address
Your subscribers will see this email address when they receive your auto responder.

Reply to Information
By default this option is checked – if you wish to have the different reply to information you can un check this option and add the new reply to information to your auto responder.

Step 2 Content[Settings]

Content Type
Select the preferred content type whether you wish to send an HTML or text based email.

Campaign Content
Campaign content has 2 major elements – subject and actual email content. You can add your preferred subject link for your auto responder.

Once all the above options are populated hit the “Next” button to proceed to the preview stage of our auto responder email. You can use the preview screen to test your auto responder design by sending a preview email or viewing it online on the browser.

When you are satisfied with the preview email click on the “Next” button and save your auto-responder.

Subscription / Un-Subscription Forms
